I have tried pure salmon oil for my senior cat in the past and she didn't care for it. She likes the taste of this better, although she's still finicky even with this. I appreciate that this mix doesn't smell as bad to me as the pure salmon oil.
Our elderly cat loves this stuff. We tried putting it on her kibble at first and she was stoked, next I tried just a teaspoon on a plate, and she still gobbles it up! The most surprising thing is that, even though the top two ingredients are fish oils, it doesn’t smell fishy at all, which was a huge relief, somehow she still loves the taste. Seems like good quality stuff, can’t speak on results yet, but it’s oil so I’m guessing she’ll put on some weight with it.
This is doing wonder for my elderly cat. She loves the flavor and it helps put calories on her. There is no strong odor at all. It is salmon flavored with a slight salmon smell and it is oily just like all the oil ingredients it says are in it. It is definitely effective at boosting her calorie intake and the oil helps with her inflammation from arthritis. This is easy to use, it says just once a day and since she enjoys eating it there is never a fight. I believe this is a good quality weight gainer and well worth the cost.
When we mixed it with his can, it did help him to put on weight after his dental surgery. So, it does seem to be effective for helping to rebuild weight after injury or surgery. He really didn't like the smell either. He didn't like the taste, there doesn't seem to be any change to his skin health. The quality with weight gaining is great.
Our 4 year old, Siamese cat Saki is a very picky eater! She is so skinny because we just can’t get her to eat. Up until 6 months ago she would hardly touch wet food, now she occasionally eats it. She prefers kibble but tires of flavors after a bag. I can’t tell you how much food we have given away or thrown away because we’ve tried so many different products to get her to eat. She actually eats all of her food when this liquid when added! This liquid weight gain is amber in color and has no offensive odor, as a matter of fact, it has very little smell to it at all. It does not smell fishy, it smells like olive oil. The flip tilt cap makes it easy to administer small amounts. The directions say to use 1 teaspoon daily, all I did was put a few drops on her dry food and she ate it all up!I am very pleased with the ingredients, they’re all oils I recognize! This product does contain potassium sorbate, it’s a preservative that prevents mold. It is considered generally safe for cats as a preservative in cat food at approved levels up to 3400 mg/kg. The bottle does not indicate the level of potassium sorbate, but I’m going to assume it’s within safety standards because it is "proudly made in the USA". Hence the reason for a warning on this product label indicating this liquid is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only and should not be used on the continual basis without breaks between extended use. My suggestion to Pet Care Sciences is to offer this product in a smaller container. The 16 ounce bottle has 96 servings, cats eat very little and with the product warning on the label, I think it would’ve been better to offer this in an 8 ounce bottle for half the price.
